Pricing & Estimates
How much does an everyday driver engine rebuild cost?
Pricing depends on the engine’s condition, required machining, and the parts used. We follow a standard price sheet for our machining and assembly services, but final quotes are made after we inspect your block, crank, pistons, and heads. Daily-driver builds are often more budget-focused, and we can go over part options that fit your needs. You can view our base pricing on our Price Sheet page. How much does performance machining or a race build cost?
Performance and race engines are priced according to the level of machine work, parts, and labor involved. After we review your goals (circle track, drag, dirt, street/strip, etc.), we’ll recommend a combination and quote based on our standard labor rates and the components you choose.Do you charge per hour or per job?
Most of our engine machining and assembly work is priced per job using a standard labor sheet. Specialty or one-off work may be quoted individually. For the most accurate estimate, bring your parts or engine to the shop so we can inspect everything in person.
Parts & Products
Do you only build engines, or do you sell performance parts too?
We do both. Fastime Performance is a full engine machine shop and a performance parts store. We carry rotating assemblies, pistons, cams, gaskets, fasteners, valvetrain components, and more from top brands for circle track, dirt track, drag racing, and street builds. Can I buy parts separately, without having you build the engine?
Yes. You can purchase individual parts and components from our catalog or in-store even if we are not assembling your engine. If you are unsure what you need, we’re happy to help you select the right parts for your combination. Can you source OEM-quality or aftermarket parts for a stock rebuild?
Absolutely. For everyday driver engines and stock rebuilds, we can supply high-quality OEM-style or aftermarket replacement components: pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, oil pumps, valvetrain parts, and more. We’ll walk through options based on how you use the vehicle and your budget.
Technical & Build Questions
Do you offer custom engine builds, or only stock rebuilds?
We offer both. We can restore a stock engine back to factory specs or build a custom combination tailored to your racing class or performance goals. From compression ratio and camshaft selection to rotating assembly and valvetrain, we can help design a complete package. What’s the difference between a daily driver rebuild and a performance build?
A daily driver rebuild focuses on reliability, longevity, and restoring factory-style performance using parts and clearances suited for everyday use.
A performance or race build focuses on horsepower, torque, rpm capability, and consistency, often using upgraded forged parts, custom camshafts, and tighter or specialized machining tolerances. Both go through the same quality machining process in our shop—the difference is in the components and intended use.Can I bring my engine or components just for machining?
Yes. Many customers bring us bare blocks, rotating assemblies, or cylinder heads for machine work only. We can handle boring and honing, decking, balancing, valve work, and more. You can assemble it yourself or have us handle the assembly as well.Do I need to provide all the parts, or can you supply them?
You can do either. If you already have parts, bring them with your engine so we can inspect and measure everything. If you need parts, we can supply components that match your combination and ensure they’re correct for the machine work being performed.Do you offer dyno testing, engine tuning, or installation?
We do offer dyno testing and tuning. We do not perform in-car installation at our location. However, we can often refer you to trusted local partners for installation services.
Customer & Process
What is the typical turnaround time for an engine or machining job?
Turnaround time depends on the scope of work, current shop load, and parts availability. Simple machining jobs may be completed more quickly, while full engine builds take longer. Once we inspect your parts and discuss your project, we can give you a realistic time frame based on our current schedule. How do I get started on a project with you?
The best way to get started is to call us at (734) 947-1600 or stop by the shop. Bring your engine or components, and we’ll inspect them, talk about your goals (daily driver, towing, racing, etc.), and outline a plan and estimate for your build or machine work. What do you do to ensure quality and reliability?
Our team has decades of combined experience in racing and engine building. Every engine and component is measured and machined to tight tolerances, and clearances are checked throughout the process. We treat your engine like it’s our own—whether it’s a daily driver or a race motor.Do you offer any guarantees or warranties on your work?
We stand behind our workmanship and machining. If there is ever an issue we will work with you on a case by case basis.
